In 1976, Frank and Janet Kelly started a small health and life insurance agency in the basement of their home. With small businesses having difficulties securing affordable health care benefits, there was a growing need for alternative sources of quality benefit plans. The Kellys' vision was to form a company that would bring together small businesses through common industry, trade or professional associations to form larger groups to provide them with access to better rates and benefits.

Over the years, the company has become one of the largest and fastest growing group insurance administrators, brokers and consultants in the mid-Atlantic region. Today – still owned and operated by the Kelly family – Kelly & Associates services companies ranging in size from sole proprietors to companies with more than 20,000 employees.

GDS was founded in 1965 by Dr. Ralph Foxman and has been providing insured dental services to members in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia for over 40 years.
